FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
You will need to let your hair grow for at least two weeks in order to get a good wax. The length should be about a half an inch long. The longer the better. If the hair is too short it will be difficult to pull from the root/follicle. When the hair is successfully removed from the follicle the results will last longer. Waiting an extra couple of days will definitely be worth it!
Should I trim my hair before my waxing service?
NO, you shouldn't trim before waxing. The longer the hair, the more the wax will adhere, the smoother your skin will be, and the results will last longer. If your hair needs to be trimmed your esthetician will take care of it as she knows the best length for the procedure.
Will it hurt?
I'm not going to sugarcoat it. You will experience some discomfort, but the first time is going to hurt more than any other time. Your nerves are on edge and you don't know what to expect. Honestly, most people say that the anticipation is much worse than the actual removal! You will experience a quick, temporary sting that stops hurting right away. After your second and third visit, you will be much more comfortable, there won't be as much hair to remove and your skin will be less sensitive. I recommend taking a couple of extra strength pain relievers before your appointment.
What is the best way to avoid ingrown hairs?
The best line of defense for ingrowns is a good exfoliating serum. PFB Vanish is great for eliminating ingrown hairs and reducing inflammation. There is also the new PFB with Chromabrite that addresses stubborn hyperpigmentation that can be left behind by ingrowns and shaving. Find it in the online store or ask your esthetician about it.
Can prescriptions that I'm taking affect my waxing service?
This is a great question. You should NOT wax if you are using prescription such as Accutane, Retin A, Differin or antibiotics. These types of medication thin out the skin and may cause peeling and blistering if waxed. It's best to wait 30-45 days after stopping the use of these products before you decide to get waxed. If you are not sure about potential reactions to waxing, consult with your physician and be sure to share any recent use with your esthetician before your treatment.
I have a special occasion coming up and this will be my first wax. Are there any special instructions?
Yes, If you are waxing for the first time for an event or special occasion, we strongly recommend scheduling the same service 2-3 weeks PRIOR to make sure you have no adverse reaction on the big day! You can always come back in for a touchup closer to your event.
Can I wax if I'm pregnant?
Yes. You may be a little more sensitive than usual during this time, but mommies-to-be come in for what we call the "Delivery Wax" up to a 2 week before their due date. Please feel free to call for a consultation before your appointment if you have more questions.
